Gaggiuino is a community-driven modification project, not my invention. It adds precise temperature control, pressure and flow profiling, scale integration, and an embedded interface to Gaggia Classic espresso machines. My part was building and installing the standard STM32 configuration in my own machine.
At the time, the STM32 installation required piecing together several sets of documentation and working primarily from the upgrade schematics. There was not yet a single end-to-end guide for that version of the build.
It was one of the more involved electronics projects I had attempted in some time. It was also my first resin-printed enclosure and my first project involving mains voltage. The enclosure worked well enough that resin printing became my preferred approach for small custom housings, while the electrical work was a careful lesson in applying proper mains-voltage safety.
I also fitted a bottomless portafilter and a new steam tip from Shades. After following the community's calibration instructions, the predictive scale measurement was accurate to within a couple of grams. Once everything was running, the remaining work was the familiar espresso problem: learning how to dial it in.
